Natural GLP-1 vs GLP-1 Agonists

Natural GLP-1 vs GLP-1 Agonists

This week, I got coffee with a friend I hadn't seen in a few months. He's been on a fitness journey and pre-ordered Ozzi months before it shipped.

When I asked if he had been using it at all, he said, "I don't really want to mess around with anything GLP-1."

A few weeks ago, I wrote an email ([you can read here]) about natural GLP-1 vs GLP-1 Agonists, so I gave him that same rundown. It dawned on me just how widespread this confusion is.

So I wanted to continue the series by highlighting one of the main concerns anyone should have about GLP-1 Agonists: Muscle Loss.

The Muscle Loss Problem

As I mentioned in my previous email, GLP-1 Receptor Agonists bind to our receptors for days or weeks at a time, creating a constant feeling of fullness (and often nausea). This dramatically reduces how much people eat.

The problem? Your body doesn't discriminate about where it pulls energy from when you're in a severe calorie deficit.

Multiple studies are now showing significant muscle loss alongside fat loss with GLP-1 Agonists.

Here's why this matters more than you might think:

1. Muscle is metabolically expensive

Your muscles burn calories just existing. When you lose muscle mass, your metabolism slows down. This makes it much harder to maintain your weight loss once you stop the medication.

You might lose 30 pounds on the scale, but if 10 of those pounds were muscle, you've actually made it harder to keep the weight off long-term.

2. The "skinny fat" effect

People losing weight rapidly on GLP-1 Agonists often report looking "deflated" rather than fit. That's because they're losing both fat and the muscle that gives your body shape and tone.

My friend at coffee? He's been working hard at the gym. The last thing he wants is to sacrifice his muscle gains for faster weight loss.

3. Harder to reverse than you think

Building muscle takes time, especially as we age. Losing it is easy. Getting it back is hard.

If you're not actively strength training and eating adequate protein while on GLP-1 Agonists (which is difficult when you feel constantly full and nauseous), you're likely losing muscle you'll struggle to rebuild later.

4. The rebound risk

When you come off GLP-1 Agonists and your appetite returns, you haven't spent that time building healthy habits or maintaining your muscle mass. Many people gain the weight back quickly, and it often comes back as fat, not muscle.

You end up in a worse metabolic position than when you started.

Why Natural GLP-1 Support Is Different

With natural GLP-1 support like Ozzi, you're not forcing your body into an extreme state. You still feel hungry when you need food. You're just not controlled by constant cravings.

This means:

  • You can still eat enough protein to maintain muscle
  • You're not in such a severe deficit that your body cannibalizes muscle tissue
  • You're building sustainable habits while maintaining your metabolically active tissue
  • There's no dramatic rebound when you stop because you've been functioning normally the whole time

You're supporting your body's natural appetite regulation, not overriding it entirely.

After explaining this to my friend, his response was: "Okay, that makes way more sense. I'm going to actually start using it."

The goal isn't just to lose weight. It's to lose fat while keeping (or even building) the muscle that makes you healthy, strong, and capable of maintaining your results long-term.

That's the approach Ozzi was designed to support.
